I can help you in your healing process. We all need help of various kinds throughout our lives, this is the meaning of community. However, ultimately each of us is responsible for our healing and our own life. To get the most from our sessions I recommend three things that help you in your growth and healing process:
A Daily Mindfulness Practice--Mindfulness means paying attention on purpose in the present non-judgmentally. Mindfulness is a skill that can be developed, like a muscle over time. One has to practice being mindful. The ordinary untrained mind is generally distracted, and unable to focus on and penetrate experience very deeply. It helps to set aside a period of time when you practice mindfulness. One could begin by practicing ten or fifteen minutes a day and eventually practice for twenty or thirty minutes. This ability to pay attention non-judgmentally will really impact your ability to be with yourself and heal your past. It will also help you be with others in a more effective and fulfilling way. We tend to repeat the miseries of the past, unconsciously, unless we become aware and then have the freedom to choose a different future. It is said that concentration or mindfulness is the most basic skill that affects all other skills; if you could perform better at everything in your life, would you?
It can help to use a guided meditation when you practice mindfulness. This can help you enter and remain in a mindful state. Often the person’s voice can help take you into a mindful state. Here are some useful free guided meditations:
Binaural Beat Meditation Technologies--In addition to mindfulness, I encourage you to consider using a binaural beat meditation technology. These can be played while you practice mindfulness. They are sounds that help to synchronize the two hemispheres of the brain. Bill Harris, the founder of one binaural technology, was so excited about this technology he regarded it as the end of personal growth and believed it could facilitate meditation practice by eight times. Binaural technology often helps expedite the process of becoming mindful and healing trauma from the past. ,
The binaural technologies I know of and recommend are:
Profound Meditation by Iawake Technologies
The Holosync of Centerpointe Research
Sacred Acoustics
Finally, other mindful people can help you in your process of becoming more mindful. Just as your own mind can be either your worst enemy or your best friend, so also other people can either really support you or hinder you to varying degrees in your mindfulness practice. If you can find other people to practice with or meet with who have practiced longer this can be a great support in developing mindfulness. One can listen to other people seeking to live mindfully on free podcasts like SoundsTrue’s Insights at the Edge.
